The problem

When a supplier's bank account details change in Xero, Xero sends a notification only to the user who made the edit — not to their manager, not to the business owner, and not to whoever actually pays the invoices. If that Xero user account is compromised, or the change was made by mistake, nobody else finds out until a payment has already gone to the wrong account.

There is also no report in Xero listing every bank detail change across your contacts over time. When an auditor or a new bookkeeper asks to see every bank detail change this year, there is nothing in Xero to hand them.

How it works

1. Connect your Xero organisation. A standard Xero OAuth authorisation — LedgerWatch never sees your Xero login details.
2. LedgerWatch checks contact bank details every 15 minutes, comparing each check against what it recorded last time.
3. When a bank detail changes, a nominated person gets an email — not the person who made the change.
4. Every change is logged and can be exported as a CSV for your auditor or accountant, with old and new values and timestamps.

What it does not do

LedgerWatch detects that a contact's bank details changed, and when. It cannot identify which Xero user made the change, because Xero's API does not expose that information to third-party applications — there is no way for us to show you something Xero doesn't give us.

Monitoring starts from the moment you connect your organisation. Bank detail changes made before that point are not visible, because there was nothing yet on record to compare them against.

We would rather tell you this upfront than have you assume LedgerWatch does more than it does.
